He is widely acknowledged as one of Pakistan's preeminent poets, with a profound influence on the literary landscape of Sindh and beyond. His extensive body of work includes over 50 books encompassing poetry, biographies, plays, and short stories, composed in both Sindhi and Urdu languages. Notably, his translation of Shah Jo Risalo, authored by the 18th-century Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, from Sindhi to Urdu, solidified his position as a distinguished authority in his field.

Shaikh Ayaz's literary contributions earned him the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz award, a testament to his enduring impact on literature. His inaugural poetry book in Urdu, "Boi Gul, Nalai dil," and in Sindhi, "Bhounr Bhire Akas," mark his early contributions to literature.
