Halim Baghi, the acclaimed Sindhi language resistance poet, was born with the real name Abdul Halim, son of Muhammad Somar Sand, on March 13, 1963, in Umarkot, which is in the Mirpurkhas district near the historic village of Ruhal. He received his primary education at Primary School Haji Kali Khan Kossi and continued his secondary education at Government High School Umarkot. He pursued higher education, earning an M.A. in Sindhi and a B. Pharmacy degree from the University of Sindh. Additionally, he completed his B.Ed. and M.Ed. in 1996-95, also from Sindh University. Poetry seems to run in Halim Baghi's family as his uncle, Juman Darbadar, is also a poet. Halim Baghi inherited this literary tradition and began writing poetry around 1977-78. He excels in various poetic genres, including Ghazal, Nazm, Vai, and Bait. His poems are renowned for their themes of resistance and romance, which have not only inspired many young poets in Sindh but also captivated common readers. Halim Baghi is widely recognized as a representative poet in modern Sindhi poetry. His collection of poetry titled "Shahr-e Janan" has been published three times, reflecting the enduring appeal of his work. In honor of his contributions, the district administration has established the 'Haleem Baghi Library' in his village, 'Ruhal Wa,' and a school named 'Halim Baghi High School' in Umarkot, demonstrating his lasting impact on Sindhi literature and culture.
